Exclusive: Hibernian open Jordan Smith talks
Hibernian have opened talks with goalkeeper Jordan Smith over a new deal as reward for his impressive form, sources have told Football Insider.
Smith has been a revelation for Hibs since joining on a free transfer last summer.
The 30-year-old has established himself as the first-choice keeper since coming into the team in November.
He has played a key role in Hibernian‘s rise up the table and reaching the quarter finals of the Scottish Cup.
Smith in line for new Hibernian contract
Smith replaced on-loan goalkeeper Josef Bursik between the sticks in November and has played 90 minutes in all of their league and cup matches since.
The Nottingham Forest youth product has made 17 starts across all competitions this term, conceding 17 goals and keeping six clean sheets.
He joined Hibernian on a free transfer after leaving Stockport last summer (2024) but is already in line for a contract renewal.
Smith’s current deal at Easter Road is set to run until June 2026.
The left-footer is experienced in the English Championship and also turned out for Mansfield in League Two.

Hibernian in the mix for European football
Hibernian sit fifth in the Scottish Premiership table, with fourth place securing a place in the Uefa Conference League qualifying rounds for next season.
The Edinburgh club scored an impressive 2-1 victory against Celtic on Saturday (22 February) to strengthen their case for European qualification.
Position | Team | Played | Points | GD |
1 | Celtic | 28 | 72 | 67 |
2 | Rangers | 27 | 56 | 32 |
3 | Aberdeen | 28 | 41 | -8 |
4 | Dundee United | 27 | 40 | 2 |
5 | Hibernian | 27 | 37 | 1 |
Hibs have not suffered defeat in all competitions since losing 3-0 away at Parkhead in early December.
However, David Gray’s side do have more contract questions to answer ahead of the summer window – with star defender Rocky Bushiri set to walk away from the club for free in the off-season.
Football Insider revealed last summer that Millwall and Standard Liege are among a number of clubs to hold an interest in Bushiri.
