Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta

Huddersfield are plotting a move to sign Arsenal rising star Emile Smith Rowe this month, Football Insider can reveal.

Danny Cowley’s side are looking for reinforcements in the loan market as they look to avoid relegation from the Championship.

A Huddersfield source has told Football Insider that the club have set their sights on Smith Rowe, 19, after the excellent impression he has made since being promoted into the Gunners first XI.

New Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is a big admirer of Smith Rowe and is convinced he has a massive future at the club.

But he is willing to let him go out on loan this month so that the attacking midfielder can get regular first-team football under his belt.

A number of clubs have expressed an interest in taking the skilful winger on loan this month, but Huddersfield are hoping to win the race for his signature.

Smith Rowe was on the bench for Arteta’s first two games in charge of the Gunners against Bournemouth and Chelsea.

But he has not made the matchday squads for the last two games against Manchester United and Leeds United.

The teenager is behind the likes of Mesut Ozil and Nicolas Pepe in the pecking order for attacking midfield positions as well as fellow youngsters Reiss Nelson and Bukayo Saka.

Smith Rowe had a spell out on loan with RB Leipzig in the second half of last season, but he made only three appearances during his time at the German club.

Huddersfield are languishing in 20th spot in the Championship table, five points above the relegation zone and Terriers boss Cowley is determined to improve his squad in this transfer window.

Huddersfield are among the lowest scorers in the Championship this term and Cowley sees Smith Rowe as someone who can add creativity and goals to his side.

The teen has made 12 Arsenal senior appearances, including two in the Premier League recently, and scored three goals.

In other Huddersfield new, it can be REVEALED that the club are working on a deal to sign a Sheffield United defender Chris Wilder is willing to let go.
