Exclusive: Hutton tips Spurs teen to flourish under Mourinho after ‘Disappointing’ start
Alan Hutton has tipped Tottenham youngster Ryan Sessegnon to flourish under Jose Mourinho after a “disappointing” start to his career in north London.
The former Spurs and Scotland defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, says that the teenager could be a “great asset” for the Lilywhites after joining from Fulham over the summer.
Sessegnon missed much of the first half of the season due to a hamstring injury but has recently stepped up into Mourinho’s starting XI in the absence of Danny Rose and Ben Davies.
Hutton says that after a tough start to life in north London it is good to see the 19-year-old getting game time and suggests Mourinho is the ideal manager for his development.
“He’s a very good player, for one so young he’s very quick and can cause a lot of problems,” Hutton told Football Insider.
“It was disappointing for him to sign for Tottenham and then have the injury so he missed a lot of the start of the season but I think he’s one for the future.
“I think he’ll flourish under someone like Mourinho, he’ll get the best out of him, hopefully now he can go on, possibly get a run of games and grow into the Spurs shirt because I think he could be a great asset going forward.”
Sessegnon has managed to play seven times across all competitions since his move across London, with two of those outings coming in the Champions League.
He has started the last three Premier League games under Mourinho, filling in as a left-back or a left-sided wing-back.
