Hutton: I’m hearing brilliant things behind the scenes about Rangers kid
Alan Hutton has revealed he has only heard good things about Rangers rising star Nathan Patterson behind the scenes.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Rangers right-back and close friend of McGregor delivered more insight on the right-back, 19, after he signed a two-year contract extension.
The Glasgow-born right-back is now committed to the club until 2024 as he looks to make a big impression at Ibrox.
James Tavernier remains a nailed-on starter at right-back and could soon be about to cap the best season of his career by lifting Rangers’ 55th league title, with personal accolades likely to follow.
Patterson must be patient, according to someone who has been in his shoes.
Hutton told Football Insider: “I think he’s been the back-up for a while and it’s just about working hard. I read his interview and he said all the right things, he’s taking in all the information from the manager, from Tavernier, which is really nice to hear.
“I mean, sometimes players in the same position don’t have that relationship but it seems like they do. From what I’ve heard, he’s working hard in the gym, he’s working hard in training – he’s saying and doing all the right things.
“I understand it can be difficult, obviously, with Tavernier playing so well. He’s the captain, but I had the same situation with (Fernando) Ricksen at the time, he was one of the main players, he was the captain.
“It’s about working hard and when you get the chance and the opportunity, you have to grab it, you have to be ready and grab it with both hands.”
