Exclusive: Hutton reacts as Rangers agree terms of deal with 'Exceptional talent'
Alan Hutton believes Rangers have an “exceptional talent” on their hands in young defender Leon King as he closes in on his first professional contract at the club.
The former Gers full-back and boyhood fan at Ibrox, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, insists he is hearing exciting things about the 16-year-old’s future, including how lucrative a new deal might be.
As revealed exclusively by Football Insider, yesterday, the teenager is set to put pen to paper on professional terms at Rangers after agreeing the terms of deal.
Hutton says that the manager clearly sees something special in the youngster to make such an effort in keeping him at the club.
Hutton told Football Insider: “He’s only 16, a lot of Premier League sides interested in him – Tottenham, Man U – so Gerrard must see something in him, he must be an exceptional talent.
“He’s obviously been in squads. They had a one-and-one chat – if you’re a 16-year-old and you’re sitting down with Steven Gerrard, the manager, a legend, and he’s talking to you…

“I imagine he’d have given him an insight into how he thinks his future’s going to go so I think that will be a great confidence boost, for the young boy.
“From what I’m hearing it’s going to be one of the biggest for a 16-year-old so they obviously have a big belief in him.”
King has not made his debut for Rangers yet but he has been playing at higher age groups on a regular basis, including for the Scotland under-17s.
His most notable achievement at Ibrox so far was making the first-team squad for the Scottish Cup win over Stranraer, although he did not feature on the bench.
In other Rangers news, Hutton has savaged one senior star for going from hero to zero at Ibrox this week.
