Exclusive: Ibrox pundit buzzing over 'Great' Rangers news after what he's seen

Alan Hutton has admitted he was delighted to see Rangers drawn against Royal Antwerp for the Europa League round of 32 stage.

The former Gers defender and boyhood fan at Ibrox, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, has insisted Steven Gerrard’s men should have nothing to fear after watching the Belgian outfit twice in the group stages.

The Gers topped their group after four wins and two draws, while Antwerp finished second behind Tottenham, who they beat 1-0 at home, with four wins and two defeats to their name.

However, despite having watched Ivan Leko’s men pull off an upset against Spurs while on punditry duty for Sky Sports, Hutton believes Rangers should have enough quality to progress over two legs.

“Well I’ve watched them twice, obviously, in Spurs’ group so as soon as I saw it I thought: ‘Great, a great draw,’ because I don’t see anything to fear,” Hutton told Football Insider.

“I think the way Rangers are playing at the moment, whether it be the league or in Europe, they’re playing at such a high level. I think Antwerp are a good team, they won, obviously, at home against Tottenham but Tottenham didn’t turn up, if I’m honest.

“Mourinho made four subs at half time, he was not happy, came out and slaughtered his team after and then obviously won at home 2-0 but again, that was a team that was full of changes, he gave his second-string a runout.

“I think Rangers go in there full of confidence and I expect them to get through that tie.”

Rangers only failed to win against Portuguese giants Benfica in their group stage, despite having taken a two-goal lead both home and away.

Antwerp meanwhile were beaten 1-0 at home by Austrian outfit LASK and 2-0 away at Spurs.
