Ipswich Town manager

EXCLUSIVE By Pete O’Rourke

Ipswich are poised to sign free agent James Wilson after he impressed on trial, Football Insider understands.

The versatile defender, 30, who can play at centre-back or right-back, is available on a free transfer after leaving Lincoln City earlier this summer.

Wilson has linked up with Ipswich for pre-season training and he has featured in a couple of friendlies for Paul Lambert’s side.

An Ipswich source has told Football Insider that Wilson has agreed the terms of a contract with the club and they are now in the process of finalising the deal.

Lambert has seen enough in the proven performer to feel that he deserves a contract at Portman Road for the upcoming season.
