Exclusive: Kevin Phillips blown away by Wolves player who is an '8.5 every week'

Kevin Phillips has heaped praise on Wolves striker Raul Jimenez for the consistency and quality of his performances.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former England international suggested that it was the Mexican’s ability to put in an “8.5”-rated performance every week that set him apart from his peers.

Jimenez has hit 20 goals in 37 outings for Wanderers so far this term.

But Phillips isn’t just impressed with his feats in front of goal.

“Well he scores goals but again, he brings other people into the game, his work rate, he doesn’t give you a minute’s rest if you’re a defender and he’s reliable,” he told Football Insider.

“He’s probably an 8, 8.5 every week, but he scores goals and ultimately you’re judged on scoring.

“Even when he has been challenged for his position he keeps it, he’s another first name on the team sheet.”

The 28-year-old has established himself as a firm favourite at Molineux since arriving from Benfica on an initial loan spell that was subsequently made permanent for a fee of around £34 million.

Jimenez has hit 37 goals in 81 appearances in all competitions for Wolves since first joining in 2018, as well as providing 17 assists for his teammates.
