EXCLUSIVE By Pete O’Rourke
Leeds United are plotting a swoop for in-form Forest Green forward Reece Brown – and could land him for a bargain fee of just £70,000 this summer, Football Insider understands.
As revealed by Football Insider earlier this week, the Championship giants have identified Forest Green Rovers star Brown as a target as they look to strengthen their attacking options ahead of next season.
A source close to the player has told Football Insider that the compensation fee for the 23-year-old former England Under-20 international could be as little as £70,000.
The modest sum is because Brown is out of contract at the end of the season and has spent only the last two seasons at Forest Green after arriving on a free transfer from Birmingham City.
The winger is under the age of 24 – the cut-off for compensation fees for players out of contract – but his relatively short stay at the League Two promotion hopefuls means it will be only a modest sum.
News of the minimal compensation fee for Brown’s signature is sure to increase competition for his services this summer, with Leeds hoping to beat a number of their Championship rivals to lure the attacker to Elland Road.
Brown, who has scored 10 goals and laid on 14 assists so far this season, is regarded as one of the most exciting talents in the Football League following an impressive season to date for the League Two club.
In other Leeds United transfer news, it can be REVEALED that the club have set their sights on signing two Liverpool players who have dazzled this season.
