Danny Mills has claimed that Liverpool will only sell Xherdan Shaqiri this summer if they can find another forward to bolster the attack.
The former Leeds United and Manchester City right-back, speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, pointed out that the 28-year-old was “very, very cheap” and suggested Jurgen Klopp would be hard fought to find an alternative at a similar price.
Shaqiri was absent from Jurgen Klopp’s squad for the trip to Goodison Park and the home win against Crystal Palace due to injury.
Football Insider revealed in April that the club have slashed their price tag for the Switzerland international due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The winger, who is interesting European clubs such as Sevilla, CSKA Moscow and Roma, still has three years left on his contract on Merseyside.
When asked by Football Insider if the winger would be surplus to requirements this summer, Mills said: “There has been a lot of talk of him moving on.
“He might be one that goes but it depends on who Liverpool can bring in to bolster the attack.
“If they can find someone in this market then they may well sell him.
“But he only cost £13million. That is very, very cheap so he has not cost Liverpool much at all.
“We do not know when the transfer window will be and if teams will spend money so a lot of teams will hold fire and get through to the end of the season before they make any rash decisions.”
Shaqiri, who arrived at Anfield from Stoke for just £13million in 2018, has been limited to just 10 appearances this season because of injury.
His brother, Erdin, told Kosovar TV station KTV: “I think there will be many offers for Xherdan in the summer.”
