Exclusive: Marc Guehi tells friends he would love to join Liverpool

Marc Guehi has informed his friends he wants to join a “bigger club” than Newcastle United and would love to sign for Liverpool, sources have told Football Insider.

The Magpies have had a longstanding interest in the 24-year-old and had four bids rejected by Crystal Palace in January.

However, Newcastle were unable to secure his signature which has intensified the boardroom tension between Eddie Howe and sporting director Paul Mitchell.

The centre-back is aware of interest from Liverpool and sources tell Football Insider he “would jump” at the opportunity to sign for them.

The Reds have been monitoring the England international since the summer, but Arne Slot’s misgivings stopped the club from making a formal move.

However, the Liverpool manager has now been convinced by Guehi’s performances and he is being viewed as a potential successor for Virgil van Dijk.

Marc Guehi prefers Liverpool move to signing for Newcastle United

The Magpies remain keen on signing Guehi after Howe has made the defender his number-one target, but Guehi isn’t overly keen on a move to St. James’ Park.

However, that won’t stop Newcastle from trying to sign him as Football Insider revealed the north east giants will pursue a cut-price deal to sign Guehi in January.

Palace demanded £75million for him in the summer, which was a hurdle Newcastle couldn’t negotiate past.

Guehi has played every minute of Crystal Palace’s season so far in all competitions, being a key member of the squad.

The centre-back is under contract at Selhurst Park until 2026, putting the Eagles in a commanding negotiating position for any potential bids.
