Jackie McNamara has tipped Aston Villa to splash out on new signings this summer following their promotion to the Premier League.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Wolves and Celtic manager claims the Midlands giants will “spend a lot of money” to ensure they establish themselves back in the top flight.
He foresees Villa copying the Wolves blueprint for Premier League success after Nuno Espirito Santo’s side spent big sums in recent summer windows during their ascent from the Championship to the Premier League elite.
Dean Smith’s side secured promotion via the play-offs last week and have already been active in the transfer market, tabling bids for the likes of Luton Town full-back James Justin.
“Although they’ve just come up they’re a big club and I think they’ll go and spend quite a bit of money to try and stay in the Premier League, rather than just go with what they’ve got,” McNamara told Football Insider.
“I can see them investing rather than just taking players here and there. They’ll want to spend a lot of money to make sure they stay there – maybe a bit like Wolves have done.”
Villa’s promotion was secured after recruiting loan signings in January and last summer from Premier League clubs.
The likes of Tammy Abraham, Tyrone Mings, Axel Tuanzebe, Wolves loanee Kortney Hause and Anwar El-Ghazi were all instrumental in the club ending their three-season stay in the Championship.
In the latest Aston Villa news, it can be REVEALED that the club have reached a verbal agreement to make loan star their first summer signing.
