Exclusive: McNamara urges Celtic to seal permanent exit for attacker in January

Jackie McNamara urged Celtic to seal a permanent exit for attacker Scott Sinclair even if they only get £1million for him.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Laura O’Leary, the former Parkhead hero admitted that the Hoops needed to try and get something for the 30-year-old winger in January with £1million being better than nothing.

Football Insider previously revealed that the Hoops had stepped up plans to sell Sinclair with it believed £1million would be roughly the price they’d be opening to sell him for.

McNamara explained that with time ticking down on Sinclair’s contract and him not playing much this season then the club should get rid.

When asked if it will be a shame to see Sinclair be sold for only £1million or whether the Hoops simply have to get him out of the door one way or another in January, McNamara told Football Insider: “Yeah but he’s not been playing this season, other players are ahead of him.

“But he has been a good player for the club, £1million with only six months on his contract and he’s free to sign for anyone in January so…

“£1million is better than nothing.”

The left-sided winger has only played seven times across all competitions but has managed to score two goals in the process.

Sinclair has been with the Hoops since joining from Aston Villa in 2016 and his contract is set to expire at the end of the season.
