Danny Mills says that Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips should be in contention for a move to a top-half Premier League side should he leave Elland Road.
The former Leeds and England defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, says that the 24-year-old will be an “expensive signing” if anyone tries to prise him from his boyhood club.
Football Insider revealed back in August that Aston Villa had launched a £15million bid for the Leeds midfielder after their return to the top tier of English football.
However, with the Villans battling against relegation, Mills says that Phillips will be looked at closely by those in the top ten of the Premier League, insisting there will be a hefty price to pay for his capture.
“I’ve said so many times, he’s a fantastic player, the likes of Villa were interested in him in the last transfer window,” Mills told Football Insider.
“I think where Villa are looking like finishing in the table, I think he’s looking at the top half of the Premier League at the moment. He’s a quality player, he’s a class act, he’s got all the attributes to play that role – ability on the ball, the athleticism.
“Without a doubt, he’s going to be a very, very expensive signing for somebody if he does leave Leeds.”
Phillips put pen to paper on a new long-term contract at Elland Road earlier this season, Football Insider revealing he has a release clause in excess of £20million if the club are not promoted this season.
He has played in all but one of Leeds’ 29 games across all competitions this season, sitting out the 2-0 win over Huddersfield through suspension.
In other Leeds United news, Football Insider can reveal that a Chelsea starlet is on his way to the club next week.
