EXCLUSIVE By Pete O’Rourke
Millwall have joined Leeds United in the chase to sign Brentford goalkeeper Luke Daniels, Football Insider can reveal.
The Championship rivals have both set their sights on the experienced shot-stopper, 31, as they look at overhauling their keeper ranks this window.
Football Insider revealed on Saturday that the Whites are closely monitoring Daniels amid doubts over the futures of number one Kiko Casilla and his deputy Bailey Peacock-Farrell.
A Leeds source has told Football Insider the club are aware of strong interest also in Daniels from Millwall, who are keen to sign a new keeper after David Martin joined West Ham last month.
Manager Neil Harris revealed he was “looking for two goalkeepers rather than one” in the aftermath of the 31-year-old’s exit, and it is understood the Bees ace is firmly on his radar.
Leeds and Millwall are viewing the keeper for either the number one spot or the number two role for next season, as they both demonstrate flexibility in the ever-changing transfer market.
United are aware they could lose January signing Casilla back to Spain, while Bailey Peacock-Farrell threatened to quit last month if he is not the first choice for next season.
Daniels has mainly been the number two since signing for Brentford two years ago, but he was installed as the number one on the final months of last season after Daniel Bentley sustained a shoulder injury.
Bentley joined Bristol City over the weekend, which could impact upon the future at Griffin Park of Daniels, who has entered the final year of his contract.
The Manchester United academy product has a wealth of experience in the Football League, including spells at Scunthorpe United, Shrewsbury Town, Tranmere Rovers, Southend United, Bristol Rovers, West Brom, Motherwell and Rochdale.
