Peterborough boss Darren Ferguson is a big admirer of Butler and sees him as a key addition to his plans for next season as he aims to build a squad capable of challenging for promotion from League One.

Butler is regarded as one of the best young defenders in the Football League and he has been a mainstay in the Newport side since arriving in 2016.

The 24-year-old has been a virtual ever-present for Newport this season making 59 appearances in all competitions, scoring four goals and six assists to help the Exiles reach the League Two Play-Off final.
