Exclusive: Plymouth Argyle in advanced talks to sign Archie Mair

Plymouth Argyle are in advanced talks to sign former Norwich City goalkeeper Archie Mair, sources have told Football Insider.

Mair, 24, is a free agent after leaving Carrow Road upon the expiration of his contract.

Plymouth are now in pole position to agree a deal and are increasingly confident of doing so.

The former Scotland Under-21 international, who joined the Canaries from Aberdeen in summer 2019, has had seven loan spells in England and Scotland, making 84 appearances across those temporary stints.

Plymouth lead race for Mair

Mair never played a single game for the Norwich senior team during his six-year spell at the club.

Last season, the 24-year-old spent the campaign on loan at Motherwell, where he made one Scottish Premiership start in a 3-1 defeat to Hibernian.

If the deal goes through, Mair will be under the guidance of former Manchester United midfielder Tom Cleverley.

Football Insider exclusively revealed last month (13 June) that Plymouth had opted for Cleverley as their new manager, rather than appointing Jack Wilshere, who was interviewed for the position.

Miron Muslic had departed Argyle following their relegation to League One, leaving the south coast side to take over German side Schalke.

Birmingham City open talks to sign Fenerbahce’s Osayi-Samuel

Meanwhile, Football Insider have exclusively revealed that Birmingham City are in talks to sign Bright Osayi-Samuel on a free transfer from Fenerbahce.

Besiktas were close to signing the Nigeria international, but the move fell through and Birmingham have moved to try and lure the right-back to St Andrew’s.

Birmingham see Osayi-Samuel as a key addition to their plans as they look to challenge from promotion to the Premier League next season.

The 27-year-old joined Fenerbahce from Queens Park Rangers in January 2021, but looks set to leave the Turkish club when his contract expires on 30 June.
