Everton will be a “massive” threat next season if they recruit some top stars to play alongside Richarlison.

Ex-Leeds United striker Noel Whelan, speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, claimed the 23-year-old could reach another level if Carlo Ancelotti brings in top quality players to accompany the Brazilian.

The attacker caused Virgil Van Dijk, Joel Matip and Dejan Lovren significant problems throughout the goalless draw at Goodison Park and created the game’s best chances.

Richarlison, who signed for the Toffees in a deal that could potentially rise to £40million in 2018, revealed that he rebuffed approaches from Barcelona and Manchester United in January.

Whelan suggested Ancelotti build his team around the Brazil international.

“It is massive that they keep hold of him,” he told Football Insider.

“They managed to fend off Barcelona which is no easy thing to do because players always want to go to the top clubs but they have managed to keep hold of him.

“They need to build the team around Richarlison this summer. If they put quality around him he will become an even better player.

“Everton want to be challenging. That is what the fans want to see and that is why they have kept Richarlison.

“I hope Ancelotti will get rid of some players and it looks like he will. Starting with Schneiderlin.

“They need to rebuild in certain areas. I think the defence needs to be looked at.

“Richarlison will be expecting top players to be signed in the upcoming window.”
