Gabriel Agbonlahor has claimed Leeds United star Ezgjan Alioski was “found out” against Tottenham on Saturday.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley, the former Premier League striker suggested the 28-year-old will struggle to play at left-back against top teams with “quality wingers”.
Alioski gave away a penalty at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium last weekend that led to Spurs’ first goal in their 3-0 victory.
A winger by trade, Alioski has slotted in at left-back this season with the Whites suffering a defensive injury crisis.
Right-back Luke Ayling has been forced into the centre with Stuart Dallas filling in on the right and Alioski slotting in on the left.
The North Macedonia international has started Leeds’ last 10 Premier League games in which they have conceded 20 goals and kept four clean sheets.
He has also contributed two wonder strikes in that time in resounding victories over Newcastle United and West Brom.
Asked by Football Insider what he made of Alioski’s recent performances, Agbonlahor said: “When you’re playing against world-class wingers he’s going to get found out every time because he’s not a defender.
“He’s a left-winger. When you play the lower teams without the quality to get past you, he’ll be fine and he’ll shine.
“When you’re playing against big teams he will get found out against quality wingers.
“That’s no fault of his own because he’s playing out of position.”
Alioski has played 16 times across all competitions for the Yorkshire giants this season.
Since he moved to the club in 2017, he has scored 22 goals and provided 16 assists in 149 games.
