Noel Whelan suggested Aston Villa attacker Scott Hogan will be tempted to join Celtic in January.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Laura O’Leary, the ex-striker admitted he is confident the 27-year-old would be keen on joining the Hoops as it’ll be a huge move for him.
It was recently reported that Neil Lennon’s side are considering a bid to bring Hogan to Parkhead in January as the Hoops boss wants to bolster his squad.
Hogan is currently on loan at Stoke City but it is believed the Championship side are willing to let the player move elsewhere as he’s not in Michael O’Neill’s plan.
Whelan acknowledged that Hogan’s time at Villa and Stoke City hadn’t gone well, but didn’t rule out the possibility of the attacker succeeding in Scotland.
When asked if Hogan will be tempted to join Celtic as it would be a huge move for him, Whelan told Football Insider: “Yeah absolutely.
“There’s been a number of names linked to Celtic, they obviously need a bit more firepower, as once their main striker isn’t available…they struggle.
“He’s got experienced, an eye for goal, it’s not worked out for him at Villa or at Stoke City but it doesn’t mean a player like that can’t make it work at a strong dominate side in Scotland because it’s a different league all together.”
Hogan has only managed to score two goals and register one assist in the 16 appearances he has made for Stoke this season.
The Republic of Ireland international spent part of his 2018/19 campaign out on loan from Villa as well, with him playing eight times for Sheffield United.
