Leeds United boss

Kevin Phillips has admitted that he is surprised that nobody has tried to sign Leeds United target Todd Cantwell.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, the former European golden shoe winner believes the versatile Norwich City winger could prove to be a bargain.

Football Insider revealed on Sunday that Leeds have tabled a £15million bid for the 22-year-old who was then omitted for Norwich’s matchday squad.

The England under-21 international has told his boyhood club that he favours a move to Elland Road and a return to the Premier League.

Cantwell‘s performances in the top-flight for the Canaries came as a surprise as he had previously played a bit-part role in Daniel Farke’s side.

However, last season he scored six goals and contributed two assists in 30 Premier League games.

Asked by Football Insider whether he is surprised that a top six club has not signed Cantwell already, Phillips said: “Yes I am actually, to be honest.

“He played really well in the Premier League for Norwich.

“He was linked with clubs and I am very surprised that nobody has made a cheeky little offer to try and nick him.

“It wouldn’t surprise me if somebody does come in before the end of the window.

“He’s a good, exciting player it’s just where he fits into a Premier League side.

“He’s certainly a player that if I’m looking to make a cheeky little bid and bring someone in who can turn out to be a right bargain then he’s certainly a player I’d be looking at, definitely.”
