Erik Lamela in January may not play for Tottenham again after he was pictured at a party with teammates Giovani Lo Celso and Sergio Reguilon over the festive period.
That is according to former Leeds United striker Noel Whelan, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the 28-year-old’s future in north London following the Covid breach.
The Argentina international has entered the final 18 months of his contract at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, having joined from AS Roma in August 2013.
He has made just 12 appearances for Spurs this season, of which only four have been starts.
When asked by Football Insider if the Lamela’s actions over the festive period could cost him a new deal, Whelan said: “This is one thing that has really gone against Erik Lamela.
“The club cannot trust him. Those players have broken the trust with the management and hierarchy.
“It is not as if he is even playing regularly and maybe that is why he thought he could do whatever he wanted. Maybe he’s not fussed anymore.
“I do not think there is not going to be another contract because he is getting to the back end of his career anyway.
I want to apologise for a decision I made over Christmas which I deeply regret. On reflection I understand the seriousness of my actions and the impact it has on others.
I am truly thankful to everyone working hard to keep us safe and I feel ashamed knowing I’ve let people down.

“He will have something to offer another club but I definitely do not think it is going to be at Tottenham, not after this.
“If anything, he has given the club the opportunity to push him out in January.”
