Paul Robinson is adamant that Willian would be a “very good addition to any team” after Arsenal offered the Chelsea winger a lucrative three-year contract.
The former England number one, speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, was confident that the Brazilian still had “at least” two seasons at the peak of his powers.
The Blues look set to lose Brazil international, who turns 32 on Sunday, due to their unwillingness to offer him more than a two-year deal.
Football Insider revealed yesterday that Arsenal are closing in on Willian after they offered him a lucrative contract and multi-million signing-on fee to him.
Willian, who is out of contract this summer, scored 11 goals and added a further 9 assists in his 47 appearances last season.
When asked by Football Insider if signing the Brazil international on a three-year deal would be good business for the Gunners, Robinson said:
“The last player they signed from Chelsea has not been an overnight success – David Luiz but Willian is a different class of player.
“He is on an age where people will say he is in the twilight of his career but the way he players look after themselves these days, the way the live their lives, he will have at least another two seasons at the top level. You can just see how fit he is, he has a brilliant engine.
“He is a clever, intelligent player and he will be a very good addition to any team he signs for this summer. He goes straight into Arsenal’s starting eleven.
“He is not a long-term signing but Arteta already has a lot of young players.”
