Exclusive: Rangers confident of signing Conor Coady next week as talks advance

Rangers remain in advanced talks to sign Leicester City defender Conor Coady, sources have told Football Insider.

Sources say all parties are hopeful of concluding the 32-year-old’s Ibrox switch early next week.

Football Insider first revealed earlier this month (9 June) that Rangers have enquired to Leicester about signing Coady.

The centre-back has 12 months left to run on his contract at the King Power Stadium.

Russell Martin has set his sights on strengthening his defensive options following his appointment at Rangers earlier this month.

Coady will bring vast experience to Ibrox after his years with Wolves, Everton and Leicester.

The 10-cap England international made 26 appearances across all competitions for the Foxes last term as they were relegated from the Premier League.

He has racked up more than 400 appearances in England’s top three leagues and is now set to play in Scotland for the first time.

Rangers, who will play in Champions League qualifying from next month, have already wrapped up a loan deal for Max Aarons in the summer transfer window.

Rangers open talks to sign another centre-back

Meanwhile, Football Insider has also revealed (25 June) that Rangers have opened talks to sign Peterborough defender Emmanuel Fernandez.

Fernandez was wanted by Norwich in the January window but ended up staying at League One outfit Peterborough for the remainder of the 2024-25 campaign.

The 23-year-old made 42 appearances across all competitions for the Posh in the 2024-25 campaign, starting in 39 of those outings.
