Exclusive: Rangers open talks to sign Peterborough’s Emmanuel Fernandez
Rangers have opened talks to sign Peterborough defender Emmanuel Fernandez, sources have told Football Insider.
New Gers boss Russell Martin has given the green light to landing the 23-year-old as he looks to strengthen his central defensive options.
Fernandez was wanted by Norwich in the January window but ended up staying at League One outfit Peterborough for the remainder of the 2024-25 campaign.
He is now a target in Glasgow as Rangers look to kick off their new era following the 49ers Enterprises and Andrew Cavenagh takeover at Ibrox.
Martin gives green light to Fernandez deal at Rangers
The former Gillingham and Ramsgate defender was a regular starter for Peterborough as they finished 18th in League One last season.
Fernandez made 42 appearances across all competitions for the Posh in the 2024-25 campaign, starting in 39 of those outings.
He played almost every minute in the club’s EFL Trophy campaign as they reached the final at Wembley and beat Birmingham 2-0 in April.

The centre-back is under contract with Peterborough until June 2027 after penning his most recent extension last year (2024).
Fernandez is a physical presence at 6ft 4in and scored five goals in League One last term.
Rangers currently have John Souttar, Robin Propper, Leon King and Clinton Nsiala in their centre-back ranks.

Rangers miss out as Poku deal hijacked
Meanwhile, Football Insider has revealed (24 June) that QPR have agreed to sign Peterborough attacker Kwame Poku after hijacking Glasgow Rangers’ deal.
Scottish giants Rangers were hopeful of winning the race for the player’s signature at the end of his Posh contract.
But the 23-year-old is set for a medical at the London club as he heads in for final talks to complete the move.
