Exclusive: Rangers turn attention to agreeing new forward signing
Rangers are working on bolstering their attacking ranks ahead of the new season, sources have told Football Insider.
Last season, Vaclav Cerny was one of the standout players for the Gers during his loan spell from Wolfsburg.
However, sources say that Russell Martin is eager to add a new right-sided attacker after Cerny’s return to his parent club.
Work is going on behind the scenes to facilitate a move to bring in a winger.
The Glasgow giants only have just over a week until their Champions League qualifying campaign gets underway, leaving them racing the clock to get signings in.
Cerny has left a gaping hole at Rangers
Rangers were urged to bring Cerny in on a permanent deal following his performances for the Scottish side last season.
The 27-year-old started 30 Scottish Premiership games in the 2024/25 campaign, scoring 12 goals and picking up four assists.
However despite being expected to leave Wolfsburg this summer, Cerny is not likely to make the move back to Ibrox, and is instead set for a switch to Besiktas.
It leaves Rangers scrambling to replace the winger, as they look to build a squad that can take the challenge to title holders Celtic next season.
Rangers accelerate pursuit of Premier League talent
Meanwhile, Rangers are accelerating their efforts to bring in a goalkeeper ahead of the new season, sources close to the club have told Football Insider.
Martin’s side are interested in signing Brighton’s Carl Rushworth on a loan deal, as they look to address their shot-stopper issues.
Rushworth has been at the south coast side since 2019, completing loan spells at Walsall, Lincoln, Swansea, and Hull.
Rangers have just over a week until their Champions League qualifying campaign gets underway, as they face Panathinaikos on 22 July, and would like to add to their squad before that date.
