Exclusive: Robinson suggests Celtic splash cash on attacker after ‘Realistic’ price reported

Paul Robinson suggested Celtic consider forking out £9million to sign attacker Mohamed Elyounoussi on a permanent basis from Southampton.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Laura O’Leary, the former England No.1 admitted he’d be interested in watching Elyounoussi join the Hoops on a long-term basis as it wouldn’t be a bad signing to make.

It was reported recently that the Hoops could land the winger for £9million as the Saints are keen to try and cut their losses by moving him on.

Robinson admitted that £9million is a lot of money for the Hoops to spend but admitted the Saints were being fair with their valuation of Elyounoussi.

When asked if Celtic should pick up Elyounoussi for £9million, Robinson told Football Insider: “It’s not a bad signing, it’s a lot of money for Celtic to spend.

“But I think Southampton are talking about Fraser Forster as well and have put an unrealistic price tag on him, but £9million seems a realistic price.

“And if Celtic can get the funds, it’ll be interesting to watch that transfer.”

The 25-year-old winger is currently on loan with Neil Lennon’s side from Southampton for the season but is currently stuck on the sidelines injured.

Elyounoussi has managed 13 appearances for the Hoops so far, scoring seven goals while also racking up six assists.

The on-loan attacker is contracted to stay at Southampton until 2023 after signing a long-term deal upon joining them in July 2018.
