Paul Robinson has tipped Tottenham manager Jose Mourinho to start Tanguy Ndombele on the bench against Chelsea on Sunday afternoon.
The former Spurs and England goalkeeper, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, says that he does not expect the Portuguese boss to change things up after the 2-1 win over Wolves.
Tottenham confirmed in an early team news update that Ndombele, the club’s record signing, is back in contention to play against the Blues, joining goalkeeper Michel Vorm in returning to training this week.
Despite Mourinho having the 22-year-old back at his disposal, Robinson suggests the boss will keep faith with the midfield pairing of Eric Dier and Moussa Sissoko.
Asked if he expected Ndombele to return to the starting XI, Robinson told Football Insider: “Jose’s played a 4-2-3-1 and with the two in midfield, one of them, the defensively sitting one, has always been Eric Dier – it’s been Eric Dier and another.
“He’s been pretty regular with his starting XI. If they win the week before, they play well, then they keep their place which is how it should be to an extent.
“He’s not really mixed it up a lot, personnel has maybe varied in one or two places.”
Ndombele has been missing from Spurs’ last two Premier League squads as a result of a groin injury, meaning he has played a total of 17 times across all competitions this season.
Victory over Chelsea would see the Lilywhites go level on points with Frank Lampard’s men in the table and would leapfrog the Blues on goal difference.
In other Tottenham news, Football Insider can reveal that the club have agreed a £22million wage deal.
