Exclusive: Robinson tips five-app Villa player to start v Man City amid Smith dilemma
Paul Robinson has tipped Aston Villa manager Dean Smith to start goalkeeper Pepe Reina over Orjan Nyland for the League Cup final against Manchester City.
The former Spurs and England shot-stopper, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, believes that the Spaniard will get the nod at Wembley after his “outstanding” performances this season.
Nyland dazzled in the semi-final win over Leicester City, pulling off a number of crucial saves, but has been the second choice to the AC Milan loanee in the Premier League.
Admitting that Smith has something of a dilemma between the sticks, Robinson believes the manager will stick with the 37-year-old for Sunday’s showdown.
“I think he (Nyland) played very well in his last game but I think Pepe Reina will play,” Robinson told Football Insider.
“He’s been brought in for a reason, with his experience and his ability, and I think he’s been outstanding since he’s come in.

“Villa have obviously struggled, they’ve not kept a clean for a long time, they’ve no clean sheet since December but I don’t think that’s any slight on the way the goalkeepers have been playing.
“Nyland, as good as he was, I think Pepe Reina will play.”
Reina has played just five times for Villa so far, conceding at least twice in his last three outings in the Premier League.
Nyland meanwhile has seven games under his belt this term, with three of those coming in the club’s League Cup run.
