Exclusive: Rotherham open talks to sign Sheffield Wednesday’s Wilks
Rotherham are in talks to sign Sheffield Wednesday forward Mallik Wilks, sources have told Football Insider.
The League One club are closing in on the former Leeds United winger on a permanent contract before the 31st August cut-off.
Wilks is a proven performer in League One having won promotion from the third tier with Hull, and boasts a one-in-two-goal contribution record in England’s third tier.
The 25-year-old fell down the pecking order for Sheffield Wednesday last season, making only 18 appearances in all competitions as he scored one goal.
Rotherham manager Steve Evans has been publicly vocal in his admiration for Wilks as the club are pushing to make a deal happen to bolster their attacking options.
With 34 goals and 21 assists across his career in League One, the winger would be a proven commodity for the Millers.

Even though Rotherham are in talks about potentially signing Wilks, they are not the only club interested in the winger.
After relegation from the Championship last season, Rotherham will be attempting to gain immediate promotion throughout this season.

Scoring goals was a problem for the Millers in the previous campaign, which is why bringing in attacking quality is crucial for Evans.
Rotherham will kickstart their League One campaign away at Exeter City this afternoon.
