Exclusive: Salford reject Burnley bid for Kyrell Malcolm

Burnley have had an offer for Salford City’s teenage sensation Kyrell Malcolm rejected, sources have told Football Insider.

Burnley academy manager Chris Casper has alerted the Premier League new boys to Malcolm, having worked with the 17-year-old during his time at Salford.

Malcolm is Salford’s youngest debutant in the EFL after starting against Colchester United in February 2024 as a 16-year-old.

The skilful forward has made nine first-team appearances for Salford, and the club have high hopes for him, having now rebuffed Burnley’s bid for his services.

Burnley attempt to sign Kyrell Malcolm ahead of 2025/26 campaign

Despite being relegated back to the Championship for the 2023/24 season, Football Insider understands that Burnley increased their revenue by over £68million, and the Clarets are clearly ready to splash that cash.

The club have already confirmed the permanent signings of Jaidon Anthony, Marcus Edwards, Bashir Humphreys and Zian Flemming, all of whom spent last season on loan at Turf Moor.

Scott Parker currently has multiple young talents at his disposal ahead of a tough Premier League campaign, and attempts have now been made to add Malcolm to this list of players.

Scott Parker risks losing big-name stars at Turf Moor

While the Clarets have already begun business at Turf Moor in preparation for the leap to the Premier League, there is a huge risk of some big-name stars departing this summer.

Ex-chief for Man United and Blackburn Rovers, Mick Brown, told Football Insider that West Ham are closing in on the signing of Josh Brownhill on a free transfer this summer.

Conrad Egan-Riley‘s future also remains uncertain over the coming weeks, with the centre-back’s current deal expiring at the end of the month, and the 22-year-old has become an integral part of the squad.

The Clarets could now miss out on the signing of 18-year-old Malcolm, who has shown plenty of promise with Salford in League Two over the last couple of seasons.
