Revealed: Stoke City terminate defender deal early
Stoke City have terminated Tom Edwards’s Fleetwood Town loan deal, Football Insider can reveal.
The 21-year-old initially joined the League One side on a season-long agreement in a bid to gain more regular first team football.
However, the club have now confirmed that they have recalled the defender from his loan spell early.

Edwards signed for Fleetwood in mid-October and started nine games in the lead up to Christmas.
However, he fell out of Joey Barton’s favour following a 1-0 defeat at home to Blackpool on 5 December and has only played once for the club since.
Barton was dismissed from his post as manager in early January but Edwards has found his chances even more limited under caretaker boss Simon Wiles.

In total, he made 12 appearances for the Fishermen – helping the third-tier side to five wins and three clean sheets in the process.
A product of the Stoke City academy, Edwards penned a new four-and-a-half year deal at the club in October 2019.
The Potters have high aspirations for the full-back who won the Under-18 Player of the Year award twice.
Edwards has made 50 appearances for the first team since he was handed his senior debut by Mark Hughes against Manchester City in October 2017.
Michael O’Neill does not plan to utilise the full-back for the remainder of the season and the club hope to find another loan club for the defender.
