Exclusive: Sunderland respond to Man United’s Chris Rigg interest
Sunderland will do everything they can to ward off interest from Premier League clubs in teenage sensation Chris Rigg, sources have told Football Insider.
The 17-year-old is now a fixture in the Black Cats’ starting lineup with Regis Le Bris’ side top of the Championship.
Man United and Chelsea have been widely linked with a swoop for the central midfielder after his breakthrough in the second tier.
Real Madrid have also been mentioned as a potential suitor for the youngster, who won the EFL Championship Goal of the Month and Young Player of the Month for September.
However, Sunderland are desperate to keep hold of Rigg past the January transfer window as they accelerate their promotion push under Le Bris this season.
He signed a three-year professional contract at the Stadium of Light in July.

The starlet has made 13 appearances this term, notching three goals – including in the crucial 2-2 draw against Leeds.
Rigg made his senior breakthrough last season, scoring twice in 21 Championship appearances as Sunderland recorded a mid-table finish.

The 17-year-old has played regularly for England at youth level and has been capped eight times for the Under-18 side.
Le Bris’ side are next in action against Queens Park Rangers on Saturday (2 November).
