Exclusive: Top pundit suggests Leeds may sign 96-cap Man Utd star as transfer plot reported
Michael Brown believes Sergio Romero could join Leeds United from Manchester United if he is guaranteed regular playing time at Elland Road.
The former Leeds midfielder, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, suggests the Argentina international is fed up of playing second fiddle to David De Gea and could leave Old Trafford for good this summer.
ESPN report that the Whites are keen on signing the 33-year-old shot-stopper as they prepare for their first season back in the Premier League.
The 96-cap star played just 15 times for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer during the 2019/20 campaign but not one of those appearances came in the Premier League.
Brown believes that the promise of first-team game time could lure Romero to Elland Road despite the fierce rivalry between the two sides.
Brown told Football Insider: “Well, vastly experienced, he’s sat there at Manchester United wanting to play, he lives in the Cheshire area so it’s not a ridiculous commute if he wanted.

“He’ll want to play and he understands that he’ll be saying: ‘Am I going to be the number one or am I not with De Gea?’ If not, he might decide enough’s enough now, he wants to go play regularly.
“It’s a difficult one signing from Manchester United for Leeds United but it has been done before.”
Marcelo Bielsa already has Kiko Casilla and Illan Meslier at his disposal between the sticks at Elland Road and both played a big part in the club’s push for promotion.
The French stopper turned his loan move from Lorient permanent last week as he put pen to paper on a three-year deal.
In other Leeds United news, Darren Bent claims a “superb” starlet is forcing his way into Marcelo Bielsa’s Premier League plans.
