Exclusive: Tottenham make Mikey Moore recall decision after U-turn

Tottenham are now prepared to allow Mikey Moore to see out the remainder of the season at Rangers, sources have told Football Insider.

The 18-year-old endured a rocky start to his Ibrox loan spell under Russell Martin, but he has featured much more regularly under Danny Rohl, much to the delight of Spurs and Thomas Frank.

Tottenham were considering recalling Moore in January and loaning him out to an English Championship club.

Sources say that the North London outfit are now happy with the level of game time that the winger is receiving with the Glasgow giants, and anticipate him to continue to have a similar level of involvement under Rohl until the end of the campaign.

Moore was starved of regular minutes at Rangers in the early weeks of his loan spell, but there is an acknowledgement from his parent club that his situation has dramatically improved of late.

Mikey Moore’s improvement is clear under Danny Rohl

Moore has been sidelined for Rangers through injury of late, but he returned to action in their 3-0 victory over Kilmarnock last weekend.

The starlet came off the bench to notch the third goal for his team as part of that win, and he has continued to show plenty more promise than he did during Martin’s time at the helm.

Moore now has goals in back-to-back games for Rangers, having also netted in the win at Dundee in November, his final appearance before that injury lay-off.

That run of form means that the Tottenham gem is already outperforming the creative standards that he set for himself in the Scottish Premiership during Martin’s time in charge, when he managed just a solitary assist.

His newfound importance under Rohl is viewed as a key element of his loan spell by Tottenham, and he has already notched three starts since the German boss’ arrival.

Rangers fans have made swift U-turn on Mikey Moore

Moore came under fire from Rangers fans for some of his displays in the early stages of the season, but his level of popularity has unsurprisingly grown as his performances have improved.

He was hailed for the impact that he made in his team’s Premier Sports Cup semi-final defeat to Celtic, and goals and assists have been flowing with increasing regularity since then.

Moore faces some stiff competition from Djeidi Gassama to be Rohl’s first-choice winger, but the lack of other high-quality options looks set to play into his hands in the coming months.

With Tottenham now in no doubt that they will not recall the youngster, he has the perfect opportunity to get his hand down and drive his performance levels even higher before next summer.
