Ruud van Nistelrooy is the new favourite to be the next Leicester City manager, sources have told Football Insider.
The 48-year-old has edged ahead of Graham Potter and David Moyes after new developments on Tuesday.
Leicester have held talks with Van Nistelrooy, who only left Man United a fortnight ago after a spell as the club’s interim manager.
The Premier League club are aware of competing interest in the Dutchman from German second division side Hamburger SV, where he spent one season as a player.
The Foxes parted company with Steve Cooper on Sunday (24 November) after a first-team fallout.
Football Insider revealed Leicester owners decided to sack Cooper after entering the dressing room in the wake of Saturday’s (23 November) 2-1 defeat to Chelsea.

Sources told Football Insider that the players were very critical of the tactics and set-up against the team overseen by their former manager Enzo Maresca.
Van Nistelrooy took interim charge at Old Trafford after Erik ten Hag’s sacking and was very keen to remain on the staff at United, but was let go after Ruben Amorim’s arrival.

He won three and drew one of four games in charge, including two wins over Leicester in league and cup.
The ex-striker’s only other senior manager job came at PSV Eindhoven, where he won 34 of 50 games and lifted the Dutch Cup.
In other news, Leicester owners slammed for Cooper treatment – “no manager should go there”.
