West Brom are set to beat the transfer deadline to sign Sunderland defender Bryan Oviedo ahead of Celtic, Football Insider understands.

Sunderland have decided to offload Oviedo before the transfer window shuts as the Costa Rica international is among the highest earners at the Stadium of Light.

A source close to the club has told Football Insider that Scottish champions Celtic have been keen to land Oviedo, but West Brom have won the race for the former Everton’s man signature.

The Baggies have agreed the terms of the deal and he is in line to finalise a deal by the 11pm transfer deadline.

Baggies boss Darren Moore is keen to bolster his squad before the 11pm deadline and he likes Oviedo’s versatility in that he can play at left-back or left midfield.

Oviedo joined Sunderland in January 2017 after a four-and-a-half year spell with Everton.
