Exclusive: West Brom outline clear boundary amid Ryan Mason sack latest

West Brom will rethink the future of their manager Ryan Mason if they are dragged into a relegation battle, sources have told Football Insider.

The Baggies are currently hovering eight points above the drop zone in the Championship, and the board will consider their stance regarding the manager if that gap is closed significantly in the coming weeks.

Sources have indicated that West Brom’s away form is providing serious cause for concern for the hierarchy, after Mason’s men were defeated 3-2 away at Southampton on Tuesday night.

Football Insider revealed earlier this week that the West Brom board remain in support of Mason at the moment, but that could now change if their situation worsens in the near future.

West Brom board are behind Ryan Mason for now

Mason only took the reins at West Brom in the summer, but he has already come under significant pressure from the fans in recent weeks.

The B71 outfit had hopes of mounting a promotion push in the summer, but they have now fallen to 16th in the table after their latest defeat away from home.

Mason now stands as the bookies’ favourite to be the next second-tier boss to lose his job, with Russell Martin already installed among the early leaders to step into his shoes if he is dismissed.

The 34-year-old still retains the backing of both the board and the players at The Hawthorns, but a line has now been drawn in terms of how long that support will remain.

The Baggies’ difficult festive fixture list

The pressure on Mason at West Brom has lasted for several weeks now, and he will surely have to lead his team to a strong points total throughout December if he is to alleviate any of that.

However, that will be easier said than done, given some of the difficult tests that the Baggies face on the horizon this month.

West Brom’s next five Championship games.

A clash with a resurgent Sheffield United is next on the schedule on Friday night, as the Blades attempt to extend their recent unbeaten run to an impressive seven games.

Mason’s men then close out 2025 with meetings with a trio of play-off chasing sides in Hull, Bristol City and QPR.

West Brom have comfortable daylight between themselves and the bottom three for now, but if they fail to take a favourable return from that group of games, then Mason could find his job at serious risk as we head into 2026.
