Exclusive: Holland reveal about West Ham 30-yr-old blows Whelan away
Noel Whelan has been left raving over West Ham star Michail Antonio after Nathan Holland lifted the lid on his influence behind the scenes.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, the former Leeds United striker insists the 30-year-old is the sort of player all young talents should aspire to be like.
In a Q&A with fans on his personal Instagram account, the 21-year-old winger was asked which senior players took him under his wing, to which he responded: “Lots of them did, including Antonio.”
Whelan insists that Antonio has got the attitude that young players should copy and that he is a vitally important figure among the senior squad.
Whelan told Football Insider: “He’s been a great servant for West Ham, he really has. He’s a player that does wear his heart on his sleeve and puts 100 per cent in.
“You can see he does fight for the cause, he has got the right attitude, he does seem like a professional player at a football club you would look up to.

“He’s dangerous, he’s got pace, he’s got power, he’s got trickery and score goals, which is great. Why would you not want to play like that? He must be a dream to work with.
“I’m sure very much like Robert Snodgrass, Noble in there as well, he’s a key player whether he starts, is on the bench or in the changing room, David Moyes will know he’s integral to West Ham.”
Antonio, who celebrates his 30th birthday today (28 March), has played 145 times for the Irons, scoring 30 goals and chipping in with 21 assists.
Holland meanwhile has just four senior appearances for the east Londoners.
In other West Ham news, Alex Bruce claims one senior star is being lured into a blockbuster move by his best friend.
