Noel Whelan has been left buzzing after Leeds United announced young defender Charlie Cresswell has signed a new contract at Elland Road.
The former Leeds striker and boyhood fan of the Whites, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, has lauded the teenage centre-back for his rise through the ranks in West Yorkshire.
The Whites confirmed on Thursday evening that the 18-year-old had put pen to paper on a new deal set to run until the summer of 2023.

Cresswell, a graduate of the youth ranks at Thorp Arch, made his first-team debut against Hull City in the League Cup earlier this year.
Whelan was left blown away by what he saw from the teenager back in September and has lauded the club for getting him tied down to a new long-term contract.
Whelan told Football Insider: “Fantastic. It’s a contract that I’m very happy to see signed.
“Leeds United didn’t waste any time in getting that done, a good spell with the England set up, His debut was fantastic against Hull, in my opinion, I thought he was one of the standout players even though we played so poorly on the night.
“He is the future, he’s one for the future. At that centre-half position he’s got great attributes, he’s very calm on the ball, a great size to him, he’s quick, he can head, he can pass. He’s the modern-day, young-centre half.
“I think with that introduction into the England fold as well with the under-19s he’s really going to progress into a fantastic centre-half and really looking forward to maybe seeing him a bit more this season.”
Cresswell has been a regular for Leeds’ under-23 side this season but is yet to feature in a first-team league squad for the Whites.
