Noel Whelan claimed that Everton should sign Lyon attacker Moussa Dembele as Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Moise Kean don’t look capable of scoring 20 goals in the Premier League this season.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Laura O’Leary, the ex-Leeds United and Coventry City attacker stated that the Toffees needed to sign a capable attacker and suggested that Dembele fits the bill.

As revealed by Football Insider, Moussa Dembele is willing to quit Lyon and move back to England next year amid strong Everton interest, with him regarding a move to the Premier League as the next logical step for his career.

Whelan revealed that he believes Dembele is a fantastic player who was worth the Toffees’ time and pointed out that the forward had previously impressed at both Fulham and Celtic.

When asked if it is a no-brainer for Everton to go all out to sign Dembele, Whelan told Football Insider: “I think so, I think he is a fantastic player.

“I think we saw it when he was playing for Fulham and Celtic with the goals that he scored, Everton do need an attacker, there is no doubt about that.

“I don’t think Calvert-Lewin and Kean are your answer there, they’ve got loads of great midfielders who can create chances and it seems Calvert-Lewin and Kean are a little bit short of what they need.

“They need someone who is instinctive in front of goal who can get you 15-20 goals a season, can Kean and Calvert-Lewin do that? I don’t think they will.”

“They’re great players but I don’t think they’re going to hit 20 in the Premier League.”

The 23-year-old attacker has scored six goals in eight league games this season for Lyon, which means he has averaged a goal every 102 minutes in Ligue 1.

The Toffees have so far struggled for goals in the Premier League as they have managed to rack up just six goals in their first eight outings.

In other Everton news, it can be REVEALED that the club have set their sights on signing two players at north-west club.
