Exclusive: Whelan claims 'Excellent' Aston Villa player 'in the shop window'
Jonathan Kodjia has been placed “in the shop window” by Aston Villa ahead of January, according to Noel Whelan.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Leeds United and Coventry City striker explained why the striker’s cup heroics against Liverpool is ideal timing for the club.
Kodjia, 30, is out of contract at the end of the season and, as revealed by Football Insider, has not been approached by Villa about discussing an extension.
Whelan is convinced that plenty of clubs will be expressing their interest in the £15million forward after he scored twice in Wednesday’s 5-0 League Cup mauling of Liverpool.
“It looks like Kodjia is leaving, in January or at the end of the season,” Whelan told Football Insider. “He’s not got a new deal and Wesley is Dean Smith’s clear first choice.
“What Wednesday does is put Kodjia in the shop window. It shows he’s fit, scoring goals and ready to go into a team.

“He looked sharp against Liverpool and, even though it was against their kids, it probably bumps up the price a little bit as well.
“Villa certainly won’t want to let him go on the cheap. If anyone does sign him, they will get an excellent player who’s quick and can score goals.”
Kodjia has had to play second fiddle at Villa this season to summer signing Wesley Moraes, who has started all 17 of the club’s Premier League matches.
The Ivory Coast international has made just one start among six appearances this term but has an impressive record for Villa, with his 102 appearances yielding 31 goals and eight assists.
In other Aston Villa news, it can be REVEALED that the club are set to terminate a loan deal as agreement all but secured.
