Whelan Exclusive: Leeds loanee's dropped big transfer hint in Twitter exchange with fan
Noel Whelan believes Leeds United loanee Illan Meslier has dropped a big hint about his future at Elland Road after sending a Twitter message to a supporter.
The former Leeds striker and lifelong fan at Elland Road, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, admits he is expecting the 20-year-old to sign permanently from Lorient this summer.
After a video of a young Leeds United fan practising his goalkeeping skills went viral, the shot-stopper responded on his personal Twitter account by inviting him to Thorp Arch to train alongside him when football resumes.

As revealed exclusively by Football Insider, Leeds are in talks over triggering the £5million purchase clause in the player’s loan terms before the mid-May deadline.
Whelan admits he cannot see anything other than a permanent move for Meslier this summer and thinks the video message points towards exactly that.
Asked if the message was a hint over his future at Leeds, Whelan told Football Insider: “Well, it looks that way, doesn’t it? It seems that way.

“I don’t think Leeds would have gone into the market to get a loan player so young if it wasn’t for the long-term. I think the loan is a view to buy obviously because right now you’ve got to be realistic if we didn’t go up, he might be going back to his parent club.
“Where we are right now in the league and now he’s getting the opportunity, I can only see that loan move becoming permanent.”
Meslier has three Leeds appearances under his belt, having played second fiddle to Kiko Casilla for most of the season.
He has played a total of 33 senior club matches during his fledgeling career.
