Whelan tears into 'bitter' senior West Brom man lacking class
Noel Whelan says that West Brom director Luke Dowling was wrong to publicly criticise Celtic’s treatment of Oliver Burke after his loan spell in Scotland.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Leeds United star blasted the Baggies chief for his furious statement targeting Neil Lennon and the Bhoys, insisting that such matters should have been dealt with behind closed doors.
Following Burke’s return to the Hawthorns, sporting director Dowling took aim at the Glasgow giants regarding their management of the 22-year-old, stating that “he won’t be going nowhere near Celtic with the current manager.”
Whelan was not impressed with the manner in which the West Brom senior figure had gone about things, saying that he expected more class and respect from the Baggies.
Asked if Dowling was wrong to publicly criticise Celtic, Whelan told Football Insider: “I think so, there are certain things that need to be kept indoors and between the four walls of the football club.

“I don’t see any point or what you’re gaining by that apart from looking a bit bitter and you’d expect a little bit more class.”
Burke managed to make 19 appearances for Celtic during his half a season on loan, just two less than he has managed for West Brom since signing back in 2017.
Dowling was appointed in his role at the Hawthorns back in September 2018, having carried out the same duties at Nottingham Forest and Watford.
In other West Brom news, it can be REVEALED that the Baggies are in pursuit of a giant signing from a Premier League heavyweight.
