Noel Whelan is hugely excited by the prospect of Rodrigo de Paul in a Leeds United shirt after the club agreed personal terms with the Udinese midfielder.
The former Whites and Coventry striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, is adamant that the 26-year-old will be drawn to Elland Road by the prospect of working with Marcelo Bielsa.
Football Insider revealed yesterday that the club have offered the Argentina international a lucrative long-term deal to move to Elland Road this summer.
De Paul was the standout performer in a Udinese side that finished 13th in Serie A last season and his 34 appearances yielded an impressive seven goals and six assists.
Inter Milan are also interested in the playmaker and Whelan believes that bodes well if United for the potential signing.
“Leeds United are a very big club and he will have been drawn by the prospect of playing in the Premier League,” he told Football Insider.
“You also have to look at Marcelo Bielsa, the pull that he has. The style of play that he has implemented at Leeds is a joy to watch and must be great to play in.
“Rodrigo de Paul is a player that Bielsa already knows. I am sure he has been watched for a number of years so this is somebody that looks like a fantastic player, a great signing and it is good to see that big clubs like Inter Milan are interested in him as well.”
Leeds remain in negotiations with the Italian side over the structure of a deal as a fee is yet to be agreed.
Rodrigo De Paul could follow Rodrigo Moreno and Robin Koch to Elland Road after the club unveiled the two marquee signings last weekend.
In other Leeds United news, Danny Mills has told Football Insider that the club ‘still have £100m left’ after recent spending spree.
