Noel Whelan has urged Leeds United to sign Chelsea’s Connor Gallagher with the Whites and West Brom reported to be interested in the midfielder.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, the former White and Coventry forward claimed that the 20-year-old would be a “fantastic addition” to Marcelo Bielsa’s squad ahead of the new Premier League season.
The Daily Mail report that Crystal Palace, who were close to completing a loan move for Gallagher earlier in the window, have now turned their attentions to Michy Batshuayi instead.
Leeds and West Brom are said to be admirers of the player with both exploring the option of a potential season-long loan deal.
Gallagher, who scored six goals and provided 11 assists in 47 appearances last season, spent the first half of campaign on loan at Charlton Athletic before moving to Swansea City in January.
When asked by Football Insider if he would like to see the England Under-21 international at Elland Road, Whelan said: “I would love to have him at Leeds.
“I was very impressed when I saw him play last season. He stood out like a sore thumb.
“Great on the ball and very competitive. He likes to get on the ball at every opportunity, very much like a Pablo Hernandez. He is not shy about having the ball at his feet in tight situation, good vision, good ranger of passing.
“It does not surprise me that Leeds, Crystal Palace and West Brom are looking at him. He can control a game and we need players like that in the side. Gallagher is still only young and would be a fantastic addition to an already young squad.”
