Steve Bruce has confirmed that Aston Villa are prepared to listen to offers for right-back Ritchie De Laet, according to a report.
The Birmingham Mail revealed the news after the manager informed them that the right-back wanted more game-time and the Bruce could not promise him that.
“We’re in this horrible situation where he needs games,” admitted Bruce in the Birmingham Mail.
“Unfortunately we can’t give him it and he gets nothing from the U23 games.
De Laet, 29, has fallen down the pecking order at Villa Park and now finds himself behind Alan Hutton and Ahmed Elmohamady.
The 6ft 1in defender only joined the club in the summer of 2016 and has made just 12 outings in total after a knee injury last season scuppered his progression in the claret and blue stripes.
Football Insider verdict:
The Belgian wants to play but Bruce is unable to guarantee the defender minutes so it looks as though it is only a matter of time before a transfer comes to fruition. De Laet only signed for the Birmingham based club last summer and made just three appearances before a knee injury saw him sidelined for the remainder of the season. And despite making his comeback this campaign, the defender has still only managed to notch up nine outings. It would be better for all parties if the 29-year-old moved on to pastures new so that he can get the games he wants.
