Expert backs Arsenal for title challenge after Andre Cunha reveal - 'he can be the shining light'

Arsenal could launch a title challenge with Gabriel Jesus up front – and his performance manager Andre Cunha will be crucial in optimising his output.

That is the view of medical expert Ben Dinnery, who runs the Premier Injuries site and has a background in injury and data analysis.

Jesus, 25, completed a £45million move from Man City to Arsenal last month (4 July) and has since netted seven times in five pre-season appearances.

Cunha has followed the Brazilian striker to north London and revealed to The i the level of work that goes into tailoring his diet, sleep and training programme.

Cunha tracks biomarkers in Jesus’ blood to ward off injuries and the 56-time international also has bespoke breathing and yoga exercises, as well as meal and snack plans.

Dinnery claims that Cunha can help Jesus be the Gunners’ “shining light” in 2022-23.

“You want to create an elite environment,” he told Football Insider’s Adam Williams.

“You want your players to go out there and deliver. He is the new signing and the shining light. They hope he can turn Arsenal into a club on the fringes of those top two places.

“The more you can do to micromanage your players and take decisions out of their minds so they can focus on one thing, you are only going to see a benefit on the pitch.

“Just because these guys are elite level players are good at what they do, it doesn’t mean they live their lives in an elite way in terms of diet and sleep.

“So, players will embrace this sort of thing, especially when they begin to see the results in their performances.”
