Expert fumes at VAR as Tottenham victims of major injustice v Nottingham Forest

Steve Cook should have been sent off during Nottingham Forest’s 2-0 loss to Tottenham on Sunday (28 August).

That is according to Spurs insider John Wenham, who regularly breaks news about the club on his Lilywhite Rose social media channels.

Tottenham were awarded a first-half penalty after Cook prevented the ball from entering the net with a flailing arm.

VAR looked at the incident and decided not to award a red card.

Richarlison was also wiped out by Brennan Johnson after a moment of showboating in the second half.

Wenham was left frustrated by both incidents and was left baffled by the decision to award Cook a yellow.

“Sky’s reaction to Richarlison’s keepy ups yesterday was bizarre,” Wenham told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“There was almost encouragement that it was fine to assault someone just because he was doing keepy ups.

“I find that very, very strange. It was a heavy challenge. There were also multiple times where Harry Kane was taken out.

“They also should have had a red card when the penalty was awarded. If you block the ball with your hand in front of goal then it is a red card, simple as that.

“I was very confused that VAR only deemed that a yellow.”

Tottenham are next in Premier League action against West Ham on Wednesday (31 August) as they look to maintain their unbeaten start to the season.

They then face another London derby against Fulham next weekend (3 September).
