Expert: Liverpool have pulled off ‘another coup’ as ‘exciting’ Calvin Ramsay claim made
Liverpool have pulled off “another coup” after completing the signing of Calvin Ramsay from Aberdeen.
That’s according to former Rangers and Scotland boss Alex McLeish, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the Reds’ latest signing.
Liverpool confirmed (19 June) the signing of Ramsay, 18, from Aberdeen in a deal which could rise to £6.5million.
The right-back has put pen to paper on a five-year contract on Merseyside.
He is the Reds’ third signing of the summer window following the arrivals of Darwin Nunez from Benfica and Fabio Carvalho from Fulham.
McLeish is excited to see how Ramsay performs next season.
“It was quite out of the blue,” McLeish told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild
“To see a young Aberdeen player courted in that way by Liverpool, Liverpool don’t normally get it wrong.
“When they bring in some of the other players, there are no headlines. They always do it quietly.
“They have great contacts and great relationships with other clubs.
“This could be another coup for them. Andy Robertson will be over to see him and he will be able to guide him.
“That’s what you need when you go to a club like that. I’m delighted for him and it will be exciting to see how he does and where he plays.”

The Scotland under-21 international made 33 appearances for Aberdeen across all competitions last season, scoring once and providing nine assists.
Ramsay has European experience, making six appearances and providing four assists in Aberdeen’s Europa Conference League campaign.
